hi I decided to design a lna in ADS 2016. so placed a S2P blocked and add a transistor s2p file in this block.then I placed a Zopt block to calculate Z optimum for minimum noise figure.the result for S_parameters and stab fact was good but I have a warning about Zopt block so that ADS can not calculate this parameter : " Warning detected by
Hello, I have the following XnP parameters for a lna. I want to simulate in ADS the transfer of power (S21) and the IMR3 (harmonic simulation). I know how to simulate S param., with the data item touchstone etc. But with X param. I am never successful. Any advices? Thank you in advance! lna and X param:
Hi guys, Can we write this for a certain block like lna ? S21 = (1+S11) vout /Vin IF yes, where is it coming from ?
HI, ALL, I want to design a high input impedance lna, i.e. input 2K about, and the output impedance is 50R. The freq band is from 100M to 600M, How to design it? Many thanks. Best, Tony Liu
I am following RF design book and tutorials on negative resistance oscillator, but encounter some problems. My design is 5GHz oscillator. I want to use single device, so i decided to use NE3210S01, it has very high gain, there are many papers with push-push, etc. oscillators, where NE3210S01 fundamental oscillation is at 3...9 GHz. My idea is th
The first important thing in lna design is to carefully select a LOW NOISE active device which can meet simultaneously all the design parameters as: Noise Figure, Gain, Linearity, and Stability. There are many things to follow designing a good lna but most important are: designing the input matching network for good compromise between Noise (...)
It's only 1.5% less. Relevant tolerances (widths, lengths, also from resistors) are often waved through by the LVS. Or you have voltage drops in the layout's power supply which aren't considered in schematic. Actually 18mW seems a bit high for an lna ... - or does this include several stages?
The s-parameters being a small signal analysis can be easily calculated using any spice by means of AC analysis. The question is - the mos model you are using for lna simulation is valid for RF range ? You can refer the application note to know how to calculate s-parameter using pspice -
I am designing a differential lna(two outputs) with CG-CS cascode topology in ADS. I got s(21) -19 dB and s(31) +9 dB. But when i have connected external 3 port balun, i got 8 db of gain. I am confused, what should i take as gain that is whether it is magnitude addition of two ports gain which comes out to be 27 or balun's 8 dB GAIN. when i did t
Input Matching is simply like lna matching so Conjugate Matching.LO port is hardly driven so it doesn't need matching. Output Matching can be done by obtaining large signal output impedance ( Large Signal S-parameters ) then apply a proper Conjugate Matching or Harmonic Matching that decreases harmonic contents at the output.( It's a little bit tri
There is a OIPn measurment block in s-parameters simulation palette, use it with low driving level at least 20dB lower than P1dB.Then extract the Gain of your lna from this value.
I am doing project on design of lna (12 GHz). I am using NE3210S01 transistor manufactured by Renesas corp. (formerly NEC corp.). I using the non linear model of the transistor in AWR Microwave office environment. I have completed the input matching and output matching circuits using lumped element for gain=12 dB and NF=0.7 dB. After that i want to
Hi You can find design workshop for mixer at spectreRF manual in MMSIM folder or just by clicking on "help" button in cadence virtuoso. In this workshop you'll find information about simulation key parameters of mixer/lna/vco.
In " Microwave Engineering" by David M.POZAR. He has given directly Noise Figure Equation derivation as follows 113282 How it has come Fmin , RN,GS, YS,and YOPT, he has showed some references. From those references he has written directly noise figure equ
Hi everyone I want to design an lna with FHX13LG transistor. We know that for this transistor there is only s2p file. My question is that how should I make the dc biasing circuit using the s2p file. I tried it on my own but when I'm changing the values for Resistors , the current (I) changes , but the Vds stays the same as the dc voltage source.(i
gain: 20dB-30dB bandwidth: 8GHz-9GHz Looks like lna. Every year tens of papers are published about it.
Hi, i have designed a lna using cadence 0.13um cmos technology with bandwidth of 4-6 GHz. My dc and sp simulation run well but my pss simulation keep terminating and show me there is an error. Can anyone please help? I have attached the related images104761104762104763 here.
I want to measure Zin of an cascode lna using Cadence. I am wondering if this is correct. 1. Measure S - parameters 2. Convert S to Z parameters 3. Zin = Z11 from the result above I know that Zin is not Z11 in ZP analysis, though.
Your initial assumption is wrong. lna respectively FET input impedance is never purely capacitive. You possibly want to review s-parameters of a real lna. lnas are typically used for applications related to their name Low Noise Amplifier. If low noise is an objective, impedance matching matters.
hai to all, can we tune the parameters of lna in cadence spectre like we doing in ADS???
Dear All, I am working on differential lna and extracted parameters such as P1dB,IIP2 and IIP3,IIP5 using cadence PSS and PAC analysis, and i got IIP3=-15dBm,IIP5=33dBm and IIP2=-42dBm. am i getting correct results for IIP2 ? Thanks in advance.
What help you need? I would recommend to see DUBUS magazine where better designs were described in detail. I have used a low-cost MMIC from MIniCircuits, PMA series lnas, to get NF ~0.35 dB at 434 MHz, and ~18 dB gain. The PMA devices are directly matched to 50 Ohms i/o and need no special adjustment, operating at 5VDC, ~50 mA.
ADS ships with everything you need. Just open a new schematic and select Insert > Template... then select and place the HB2ToneSwptPwr template. Drop your lna into the schematic (with necessary voltage sources) and set values for RFfreq, fspacing and in the Sweep Plan set the input source power parameters. The resulting data display includes pre
Maybe there is something on the net that i did not found yet? First, the task is given. For example, build some oscillator or lna, or mixer, then S parameters are given and target frequency or band. I want to see at least some answers in numbers, microstrip lengths, so i can calculate them by myself and do some self-checking. Maybe it is a book.
Hello friends, Kindly, i need the lna performance parameters (gain, Noise, operating frequencies, power consumption, 1-dB, IIP3) for Cognitive Radio standard. Also, i need any reference for the circuit design of this technology. Thanks in advance
Dear Sir, I have designed low noise amplifier at 1.3GHz using lumped elements (example R,L,C). Now I have to go for fabrication for this designed low noise amplifier(lna). Before going to fabrication, I need to convert lumped element model to MLIN fabrication model. I designed lna using AWR microwaveoffice, am new to this conv
The NF ,S11, operating points all are ok. But why I simulate the Gain for this CS lna always zero no matter either by AC analysis or S-parameters simulation. Pls help me! THX!
lna Output pin. This pin is an open-collector output. It must be biased to VCC through a choke or matching inductor. This pin is typically matched to 50Ω with a shunt bias/matching inductor and series blocking/matching capacitor. Refer to application schematics. Can someone tell me what the functionality of the "RF choke circuit" on pi
im not trying to simulate a lna. i am trying to measure the parameters of a lna physically........ Search Application Notes in Agilent website, you will find many useful documents.
Hi, I have to simulate the gain of my designed lna with certain antenna impedance as a source. I am using cadence spectre for the simulation. The problem is that cadence spectre provides n1port for importing S11 parameters of antenna, which is a passive port. Therefore, if i connect the n1port at lna input to represent antenna, i (...)
Hi, I have to attach S11 parameters of antenna with my designed lna and simulate the receiver gain. Can somebody tell that how i can do that in Cadence virtuoso. What kind of component i should use?.
Hi everyone! I am reading a paper about a CMOS lna design. But I am not sure where the parameters' values of a CMOS technology are from??? The process used in the paper is SMIC 0.18um RF CMOS processes. The values cited are: (1) Gate oxide capacitance per unit area, Cox=9mF/(m^2); (2) Body effect parameter, r=3; (3) One measure of the departur
If a resistor have more reactive parasitics (as capacitance or inductance), there is a possibility the input match of the lna to move closer to gamma optimum, and get lower NF.
You have to specify the entire RX chain parameters, as lna gain, system RBW, etc, to be able to calculate the RX noise floor. Use the freeware program AppCAD to do the system analysis (Signal-Systems/NposeCalc) AppCAD
hello all.. For CMOS Ultra Wideband applications (UWB) of Low Noise Amplifier there exist a trade off between few design parameters viz.... 1. power consumption 2. wide bandwidth 3. Moderate but flat gain on entire BW 4. Low Noise Figure 5. Linearity / IIP3 i m searching of IEEE papers but every i found so much confusing trade off...if i m
Hi All, I need some help regarding ADS simulation, i am a beginner, I have S-parameters of Transmission lines and lna, i want to make an equivalent impedance of both Tlines+lna s-parameters which is shown in the picture, please help me how to make this equivalent Impedance.
Thanks for your reply:) To simulate influence of BGA package on chip circuitry parameters i need some kind model of it. For example, it's influence on lna. What i should do?
You can use mixed mode s-parameters to have a full linear characterization of the lna. There is a lot of literature about mixed mode S-parameters (google it), I'm giving you just a glance about them: Your device is a 3 port device ( ports are: in, outp, outn) that can be represented as a 3 port device (ports are: in,out_diff, out_comm) (...)
An input coupling capacitor blocks DC. On the other hand, in order to compensate such capacitor a series inductor is used, and it allows to set input operating frequency, but it depends on lna topology. Which topology are you using?. For example, an inductive source degeneration topology allows to improve linearity and common-gate topology has bett
Hi all, I want to design a single ended to differential signal converter balun which is to be used in cascading lna & MIXER. i tried in asitic but the parameters extracted are not correct. I am new to HFSS Do anyone have a tutorial of balun simulation in HFSS. please post the link or any ideas will help. Thank You.
Hello, I am simulating a lna at 5ghz. I have 2 questions here. Firstly, while importing s-parameter data file for a HEMT transistor, the S-param data is from 100mhz - 20 ghz and noise data is from 2 - 18 ghz? why ? Because while simulating it gives the message like illegal noise parameters. Secondly, here to stabilize the amplifer, I hav
Hi Guys, I am designing an lna at 2.4 GHz. I am a beginner. The transistor is NEC3210S1. When I use an ideal capacitor c7=200pF, the stability is OK(the second picture). But when I changed to a real capacitor model ATC700B201JP300 200pF, the stability became worse(the third picture). I tried several other company's model and got the same results
But in Cadence, there seems no blocks which can generate Gaussian pulses,There is no tool which name is Cadence. Use correct terminologies. See "$CDS_INST_DIR/tools/dfII/samples/artist/rfLib" provided in Cadence DFII. You can see examples of lna and Mixer, etc. which implement IIP3 and
15mVpp ripple for 3.3Vdc supply, I don't think this is the issue for low NF in your case. Using BER to find Thermal Noise is ok, but BER could be affected in an exponential manner by different datarates or by the system bandwidth, so you have to be careful choosing these parameters (e.g. BER doubles, for double of datarate). Usually the Hybrid TV
Hai very body,I have designed a lna for 5.2GHz but when i am trying to simulate it using ELDO(mentor graphics) for s-parameters the simulation is hanging in middle.I did sst simulation for s parameters. Can any body know how to get the out put and any alternative procedure to get the results. Thanks.
I am new in RF design and cadence spectre simulation. About the s parameter. what we should expect? In another word, in which range for the s parameter, indicate the lna is good or bad? Thanks.
What is your lna specifications?
The IIP3 of a cascode lna can be estimated from the Vdsat of the input transistor and other parameters. There exists a relationship between IIP3 and the charge carrier saturation velocity vsat and the overdrive voltage Vod=Vgs-Vt, see e.g. here:
For the ADS simulation it's OK, I have already made it. But now I need to use HSPICE and compare the results of ADS ans HSPICE. I wants to make a study on the tools of simulation of lna. Ok! now i can understand better your problem, but not totally. ADS is done! OK! What are the other tools that you are using to co
I designed a X band lna with FHX13LG from Eudyna. I had already simulated with S-parameters and noise parameters both in ADS and AWR, but I didn't do the momentum simulation. The simulation result is fine, 13dB gain in 9.1G~9.7G and noise figure is about 1.1dB. I designed with Rogers RO4350B 10mil 1/2oz substrate, and all the match stubs is (...)
