Hi, I am using hfss-13 and could not find some detailed help how to used this software. I have got manual for hfss-10 but there are some differences which are not addressed in that (being manual of old version). Can anyone guide me to manual/help of hfss-13 which can prove fruitful for (...)
Is that actually from an official hfss manual? I've never heard of an "inner void", and the english grammar of that document seems fairly poor. The usual way to assign waveports internally, is as the document does suggest, to place a volumetric PEC object on one side (the non-exciting side) of the waveport.
Looking at the example given by hfss manual, I can see a ring around the inductor acting as a gnd reference for the port, but it is not connected to the actual gnd underneath(below the silicon), so how does it work? Should the ring be connected to the gnd below in the actual

Considering you are fresh in this field, I recommend u choose the 4th topic -- Koch fractal dipole. Other topics deal with more advanced techniques, such as array or circular polarization. There are step-by-step examples on dipole simulation in the manual accompanying the hfss software.

In the manual for hfss 14, which Ansys have not updated since version 11, there is an example of a conical horn antenna. (Pages 5.2-1 to 5.2-18). I've tried to do this example, but have hit a couple of problems. One of which is that the results I get for the radiation plot are not the same as in the example. I've been trying to do some of the hfss tutorials, but like many others seem to struggle with hfss ports. I think part of the problem might be the fact the code has changed, but the documentation has not. Unless I'm mistaken, the lastest manual is for version 11.1 which is a PDF dated 20th Fed 2009. Does anybody have any experience importing hfss antenna patterns into Satellite Toolkit, or any other external antenna files for that matter? I've followed the STK manual exactly and tried a few different iterations, however the best I can get is a pattern that resembles mine however it is cut in half.
I've made the UHF probe example in hfss version 13, manual. But when I simulate it, I find the best return loss occurs at 610 MHz not 560 MHz as the example shows in the user guide. Has anyone else hit this problem? Dave
Yes. As hfss manual said, better meshing is implemented on the inner virtual airbox. Therefore it should give more accurate simulation results of the far-field properties. The inner box is not needed. It was called a virtual airbox and was used in older versions on hfss to create an inner surface to do field integrations
First of all, u need to know that IE3D cannot simulate an exact coaxial feeding like what we do in hfss. The practical way to emulate an coaxial excitation is to use the vertical localized port. There are plenty of examples of such feeding in IE3D manual.

There's plenty of info if you google it. The hfss manual even has an example of microstrip transmission lines. You will just need to adapt it to your coplanar strip line. Try: Port Tutorial CPW

Make sure you use the proper impedance definition for microstrip i.e. Zp. Please check it in the manual. when you use ABCD matrix, make sure you used the proper length.
fix phi at 0 deg and then 90 deg and plot theta from 0 to 360 (or the range of interest). Read the manual if you need more details.

Has any one had a problem when using mesh settings (either manual or lowering the value of the lambda refinement of initial mesh) in computing far-fields. We have noticed that sometimes when we set these mesh properties too high, the far field calculation becomes garbage even though the S-parameters are correct. Any thoughts are appreciated.
