Hello, I do not know if this is the right thread to post this but some of my micro-SD cards have more pins under a sticky pad at their base. These are widden under this pad, but if the pad is removed these can be seen. They are circle shape pads. What are these used for?

Use 'Oval' for other pads and "Rectangular" for pad 1. You can edit individual pads and if necessary adjust the width and length of the pad to match it's neighbors after changing it's shape. Brian.
spudboy488, thanks for the reply! Although I can get pads in layers other than drill to be setup as oblong, drill won't allow it, at least in Orcad 9.2. I believe I'll have to talk this with the pcb house. And if I needed a final pull to upgrade, here it is!!! ;)

Hi, One of my components in my PCB needs a footprint which contains a T-shaped pad. Is it possible to draw this in Orcad-Layout? Normally I see square/circular/rectangular pads. Can we assign an arbitrary shape to a pad? How can it be done? Thanks in advance Sreejith

what system are you using? In CADSTAR I would do this by drawing 2 interleaving fork/finger shaped copper shapes and adding a small surface pad on each so I can connect to them, then add a solder resist shape that give clearance for them all. Also adding a shape on a layer that I would use for carbon coating.

Yes in Allegro teardrops are provided as shape but you can set the parameters as per your need by going to Route>>Gloss>>Parameters>>pad and T connection fillet

I would reccomend doing the layer as a positive layer, and use templates and copper pours to create the desired result. That way the copper when poured will obey your copper to track/pad clearances.

actually ORCAd is unique that the pad could be any shape defined with DXF. So you can define your shape in DXF and set the pad to be that shape - there are no limitations. SO the right approach is to create hexagone shape in DXF format and then to create custom pad from this DXF
Hello! I would like to make some holes and cutout regions in footprints I made so that my polygon's go around it and that i see just holes in 3D. A pad is not working, I can make a shape and add it to the keep-out layer but there has to be a better way I guess.... Frans.

Tubes and semiconductors are great but a first line of defence is a pcb copper spark gap. You want sharp points in the gap. In padS-PCB copper-shapes won't get sharp points. A component pad (square) will as it is a flashed gerber shape. You can't have the pad rotated 45deg because pads will (...)

Did you try this in pad Editor of Allegro? Because I just tried it and can make 25uM circular pad no problem. M
You can do it in few ways. We have created as a pin the same shape as paddle for this part and used paste mask recommendation. Works great and assembly guys have no problem working with this devices. Just check help in Allegro it is explained in detail. M

What you are placing is actually "via" not "pad". Eagle doesn't support long shape for via. For changing pad shape you need do it in library editor.

Which version of Allegro is??? There are few ways to do this, If your two pins connection do not make a exotic looking pad then creat just one pin for this part the same shape as it is connected. Another one is keep your current way and in schematic connect two pins together. Regards, M
In cadstar it is not possible to assign Finger holes.The only way is you assign circular hole in pad assignment and then provide drawing for Finger hole in drill drawing layer.ANd also provide the details of Finger hole(x,y dimension) in fabrication notes. Regards, abhi

Protel doesn't do central cutouts yet. The only way to get the representation you want is by using a pad for the hole. A polygon to the edge is done by using a keepout boundary, then copper flooding. The flood will stop at the keepout (you can make the keepout boundary as narrow as you need to make the proper shape and limit).
One way to do it would be to create a small pad and then a copper shape. You can round the corners on the copper shape and associate it with the pad.
