Another method if you don't like skill is to save your GDS as a text. Use PERL or any language to find the pad layer opening, then, with some text processing your can get the pad location. If your GDS-text only include the pad opening layer, it is even easier. OkGuy
I'm CADSTAR USER...(3week;;;) I register Library(Phone Jack 6PI) in Parts I wonder how to assignment Fingerhole shape in PCB component. Program shown How to assignment fingerpads, but there is no help How to assignment fingerhole. So advice pleases...

One of my PCB Footprint requires thermal inside it. The shape of thermal is not a regular rectangle. It has to to a polygon. Take a look at the thermal requirement of TI Part BQ24103A. How can I create a pad with a polygon shape. Also how can I add via in the thermal location.
Hi, I have designed a impedance controlled trace as shown in the attached image. I have tested the trace (Figure 2) with network analyzer by probing both sides of the trace. The resulted transmission signal (S21) is flat (0dB) till more than 10GHz. When I probed the trace with pad (Figure 1) and tested with the same method, the S21 is no
Hi All, I am using padS Layout software. I need to create a footprint for TPS51200 regulator. On the page 34 of its Datasheet (it is attached) an example board layout is shown. "Non Solder Mask Defined pad" shape is suggested, but I do not know how to make it in padS PCB Decal Editor. Is it possible to make such (...)
Hello, I did this package with a costume pad on Allegro 16.3: 81936 So my problem is when I´m routing, because the centers of the pads are the same or it's in the same place. Sombody knows who to fixes? I trying on the shape file changing the center but when you save de padstack this is the message: PA
As well as that your solder paste pad shape should not really cover the same size as the pad as that outs too much solder on the pad and can lead to solder balling etc, most prefer to reduce it to about 70% by making a matrix of shapes on the solder paste layer, if you are having solder vias you can make an (...)

Hi, Anyone know how to set the pad hole to rectangle? I know how to set the pad to rectangle but the hole i didn't know?? Please let me know if you know... Thanks....
It seems that someone is making this project harder than it should be... Ive just completed a wire bond board with the following parameters: Die Size: 3750 x 2500uM Die pad pitch: 80uM pad distance from edge of Die: 158uM (passivation opening is 4uM) pad shape is Hexagonal: 72uM x, 113uM y. I created the bond (...)
i want to chage the pad type of IC from circle to oval. am using orcad 9. how to convert it
I have tried the eaagletoprotoel convertor, here is waht happens. I load board run the 'run eagle4.ulp' and it comes up with error UNKWON IDENTIFIER pad shape XLONGOCT but if I run 'run eagle4-1.ulp' it goes through ok. I used the eagletoprotel converter saved it then ran Altium designer nothing happened, So I treid to open it from
Hi to all, I'm making a very special PCB board (USING CADENCE ALLEGRO PCB) in which I have rectangular pads of 20 um x 20 um. what is special with that board is that its substrate will be made by glass and it has just one metal layer. Now I have to design a circular shapes of 25 um as a diameter in order to superpose them exactly on the (...)
You'll need to assign the thermal relief style on the pads themselves ; you can't assign the plane to a net as you don't have a netlist.
1) How do I change pad sizes globally in Proteus-ARES (inner and outer diameter and also the shape of the pad)? 2) For hand-drilling, is there in Proteus-ARES a drill aid facility similar to the "drill-aid.ulp" script existent in Eagle? Without such an aid I can not center the drill in the middle of the pad. Short (...)
This error is the most stupid thing i have seen i this tool, as if You have a flaw in defining a pad shape or padshape is not placed in the right folder or something like that, this error shows up. Another resson could be You have a property called eg revision and it is a forth running number for having controll of Your (...)
could i create padstack using layoutplus?. how to change the shape of padstack in layoutplus ie circle 2 rectangle?
hi i new to this field. i m working in single layer board(top and doubt is if i change the bottom layer to top layer in single trace, one round shape pad occurs(just i click 1 for top layer & 2 for bottom layer). that pad is so large in my layout how to change this size and different in gerber file. plz explain it
In padstack properties de-select plated, make size and shape simple, make hole same size as
Problem: Device with a large thermal pad (which is not covered with soldermask), needs small thermal vias in the pad to sink heat away, and those vias should be covered with a dot of soldermask to prevent solder wicking. The obvious approach (place a via in the thermal pad and check the box for "Force complete tenting on top") doesn't (...)
Hi Guys, I am running IR analysis. I have added pads all around my square chip. The IR map that I am getting shows a large red circle (indicating high IR drop) in the middle of the chip. When I had pads only on the top and bottom, I got a red squished football like shape in the middle of the chip. My chip also has VDD and VSS follow pins (...)
How to edit different types of pad in component pads .. any one help me
I would reccomend doing the layer as a positive layer, and use templates and copper pours to create the desired result. That way the copper when poured will obey your copper to track/pad clearances.
lol@marce. The other rumour is that it will improved :) If you want to add single holes to your design then you need to add them as a component, you cannot simply "add a pad". See here for some info on that.
hi, i want to create a padstack for TH connector. the connector footprint says 40mils dia. but the actual pin is 25mils. so my doubt is if this 40mils is the actual drill to be made on the board? please help
how can design a pad with bigger hole size in altium? for example i want to create a pad with 100mil hole size and the solid part circle 200mil?
I have Orcad PCB editor 16.5. I make a new drawing with the type being package symbol, and set up the grid and work area. I go to place padstacks by selecting layout>pins. Then the "select a padstack" box should come up but it doesnt. What am i doing wrong?

Hi, there, I was using OrCAD v10.5 Layout Plus previously, and recently I switched to OrCAD PCB Editor. But I have a problem. In OrCAD v10.5 Layout Plus, I could connect a pad to the surrounding copper like copper pour type (please see Fig.1). What I need to do is just to change the padstack setting by checking the flood plane/pour option (Fi
the IPC7351-B is using rounded rectangle pad shape for many components, even the chip. Rounded pads are better for lead-free surface mount assembly using reflow, because lead-free solder doesn't flow as well as leaded solder and the aperture openings in the paste mask stencil are rounded corners. It may also benefit low profile components (...)
Hi all, A few days ago I have created a custom pad shape in Altium to be used at the end of a FPC (ZIF connector). All went apparently well and I was able to draw the desired circuit, however when exporting the circuit to Gerber and using gerbv to view the file I noted something strange: within each pad there is a thin "island" which is (...)
Hello, SMT inductor pads are a strange shape in the SRU2009-100Y inductor....... .......... ...why are they this strange it to reduce eddy current heating of the pad? ..also, how do you draw this pad in EAGLE pro layout software?
I made a custom pad which is two half circles as the picture shows. 85139. Each half circle is made with a Solid region and a line and a arc to make the edges smooth (I dont know why in the PCB Library editing I cant design a round custom shape, so the only way I could make it was making a Solid Region with approxima
Use solid shapes and not hatched for high currents. What is going on at the connector pins top left? The track goes around the pin and then down into the pad instead of just up intot he pad?
Hi guys, I'm using a really old P-CAD 2002 for my lab work and am using the shape-based router to autoroute my board, which has several hundred pins. My ground layer is a plane layer that has 4 different ground regions made with plane region shapes. It seems that the autorouter is only routing a pad directly on top of its ground region (...)
You an draw your T-shaped pad as a shape symbol and use it in the pad stack. Create a shape symbol in your required shape and save in the directory of your board file. In the pad stack you create, browse for the shape SYMBOL you created and use the (...)
Swen is talking about reassingment's. If you reassign a top layer I.E. with solder resist and solder paste in your assignments then you need to also reassign the bottom ones too. Because reassignments do not swap. When reassigning any pad code always do it for both sides and you will have no problems. Why is this? I do not know, perhaps because
Hi Thunaivendan, Drill size, pad size should be determined based on the footprint information in datasheet. Post the part number you are using. There is no specific trace width as is based on the requirement. Follow your stackup. For 6A current you need to use solid shape instead of trace.IRF540 seems to be a SMD part not through hole.
Hi Okayguy, How do you normally do the Bonding diagram XY coordinates? Do you manually measure the center of each pad coordinates? What is supplies star routed? PP

In the old Orcad 9.2 - how do one go about creating a new SMT footprint - they all seems to be circular/donuts - how do I make those rectangular pad?
One way to do it would be to create a small pad and then a copper shape. You can round the corners on the copper shape and associate it with the pad.
There are two kinds of apertures - draw and flash. Both are legitimate types of apertures. A draw aperture is what you saw made up of 5mil lines. Draw apertures use short segments of lines to fill in a shape such as a rectangle, octagonal pads, etc. A flash aperture is defined as a solid shape. This is what you saw when you rotated (...)
Protel doesn't do central cutouts yet. The only way to get the representation you want is by using a pad for the hole. A polygon to the edge is done by using a keepout boundary, then copper flooding. The flood will stop at the keepout (you can make the keepout boundary as narrow as you need to make the proper shape and limit).
Hi Did you map the ?via layer? while defining the substrate? If yes, just draw a conductor pad exactly where you want to place the via. Change the layer to the via layer (the same one that is mapped in the substrate). Draw a circle (general shape of a via) using the drawing tools. This will be the via passing through the layer to which the via la
