Folks, I'd like to be able to pull out the peak gain along a specific phi cut. That is, along a \phi_0, I'd like the \theta corresponding to the maximum gain. Any ideas on how to do that aside from plotting a rectangular plot of the E_{total} along \phi_0, loading that into MATLAB, and doing this? T

i have created an array with 4 elements. The pattern in matlab is great. 127214 i designed same array on hfss, the result is awful but it looks similar. There are some symmetry problems along y axis. What do you mean by calculation of phi and theta values ? Basically radiation pattern in hfss is phi or theta variation of Field Magnitude for constant theta or phi value respectively. So you can use marker to get desired value of field magnitude at specific (...)
First go to Radiation in Project Manager. Right click, insert far field setup, Infinite sphere, set theta and phi as start:0, Stop:360. Step Size:1. Now right click on Results, Create Far Field Report, 3D Polar Plot, select trace tab, Category = Gain, Quantity = gain total, Function = none. Then click New Report. WAHLA!!! ;-)

Hello, i need to change the range of the sweeps. Make theta range 0 to 180 instead of -180 to 180 and phi 0 to 360 instead of 0 to 180. Check the range of theta and phi in your Farfield setup (in the Radiation sphere dialog box) You have not used the full range of phi values.
Create a new 'Far fields report' in hfss with the trace of Axial ratio. It is one of the categories directly available after simulating in hfss. Set your Primary sweep to frequency and in the 'Families' tab, set your theta and phi to whatever value you want. A sample specification is shown

I'L take u have done a frequency sweep simulation for ur structure..!! Since u said Gain, I'L take it is an antenna u r trying to simulate ..!! Have u defined an Infinite sphere before u plot ?? If not do it, den u need to fix theta and select all phi, or fix a phi and select all theta according to the requirement of ur plot (...)

what do you understand by gainLX plot? are you doing the sweep analysis while plotting the curves with frequency for set theta and phi?
In "Results" --> "Create Far Fields Report" --> "Radiation Pattern" you have do change the "Primary Sweep" from theta (V) to phi (H).

I heard that if I import the import the measured power data(theta, phi) into hfss, he can plot the 3d pattern for me. Also, he can compute the directivity based on this. Is it true? Hello, Please anyone suggest me how to see gain in dBi unit using hfss v.10. I am trying to see the peak gain over a frequency sweep, with phi=0 & theta=0. From Antenna Params -> Peak gain ->dB, is that ok? (I did not see any option as dBi or dBd). What's the exact procedure or am I confused somewhere....anybody pls help!!
Calm down. As the others wrote, it must be something trivial. Why don't you check your integration area (sweep range for theta and phi) for the radiated field? It's very likely that you sampled the same angles multiple times.

You need to create & setup Far fields ( theta & phi ) first. Check hfss tutorials for details.
Hi fcolleon firstly select insert near filed setup in the radiation tree and then select sphere secondly after simulation in the results select near filed data and in the results page you can select any plan you want by its theta and phi(fixed theta or fixed phi) I hope it'll be helpful

what is theta and phi? If those are the locations around the antenna/network, there is no relation with S11, Z etc.
