hi, How I convert mV to vswr ? thanks Much better in dB and calibration easiest as well. For instance load 6dB it is -12dB matching and so on.

the metod described by you is traditional method. currently vswr meter can give direct reading due to automation. the circuit has two detectors, highly directional coupler and selection switch with controller and indicator.

I wouldn't go crazy with the cable. I would pick one with fairly good vswr, so there is not too much ripple vs. frequency. A scalar can not readily correct the fast ripples, as they can change depending on what you are trying to measure, and if they chage your scalar calibration is no longer going to correct for the ripples. If you don’t have a Network Analyzer you can measure the vswr (and Return Loss) using a signal generator, a directive coupler, a detector (or a spectrum analyzer), and a matched load. Γ=(vswr-1)/(vswr+1) RL=-20*LOG(Γ) In this way you measure only the real part of the impedance.

It is nothing related to vswr. Regarding the same amout of energy is delivered to the antenna, part of the energy is radiated, the other part of energy is dissipated due to resistive load and surface wave. vswr is just a way to look at the mismatch. It is widely used years ago when mostly a slotted line was used for impedance matching. With slotted line you can easilly measure voltages along the line and calculate vswr.
Hi star22 If you can connect Directional coupler. you can measure with low power Instruments in one port the Tx power and the second port the reflected power (vswr=reflect/Tx). Don't forget to add the coupling. PL

Actually I think that you are looking to measure ruggedness of the PA under different vswr’s. For this you can use a simple line-stretcher (or tuning stub, whatever you want to name it).
