anyone have any idea on using visual c++ as a scheduler?
If I understood correctly then you are trying to say that you want to execute a piece of code in a definite fashion with a set priority (after windows kernel) like a schedular (because visual c++ generaly uses windows schedular).
Please let me know that my und

If you want the complete source code for the USB standard, go for Linux. You won't find it for has the Linux kernel source code but that's not easy to get started with.
IMHO if you need to use USB interface in SW, you don't need to know the code implementing the full standard. You just need to know the standard and the int

Anyone have an idea how to ensure atomic execution of code in windows kernel mode driver?

VxWorks is a Cross-Complier Platform. We compile the kernel along with application in a windows/Solaris System.
By the way, Tornado is a almost Obselete IDE which was for VxWorks 5.5.
The latest IDE is called "Workbench" and the VxWorks release is 6.x.

Some points to consider.
1. Interface: The method/bus/technology implemented to communicate with the processor.
2. Operating System: To which operating system the system is used.( windows, Linux, Embedded, RTOS)
3. Application: Where the system is used. Whether kernel will communicate or user can communicate.
4. Protocol: Memory interface and

If you install 32-bit Linux, you can pick the smp kernel and it behaves the same as a two-cpu system. If you install 64-bit Linux, it supports multiprocessor automatically, i.e., no smp kernel required!
windows XP PRO x64 Edition can identify 2 CPUs. The 32-bit version should be able to as well.

Are you sure the PC is outputting the signals? You didn't say what software you are using, so I'm guessing that you wrote a program that runs under windows XP or 2k. Those operating systems prevent user programs from accessing I/O ports, unless you install a kernel mode device driver such as PortTalk. There's a link to it here:

A WinNT/2k/XP application cannot write directly to an I/O port unless you first install a kernel mode device driver that performs the I/O, or tweaks a windows access control bit somewhere that gives you access.
I like PortTalk. It includes an easy-to-use program called allowio that you run from the command line. It auto-installs a driver, and th
