Hello, I am trying to design dual band microstrip patch antenna but I calculate very low directivity, gain values. I am trying to solve this for few days but I couldn't. Could you please help me? Thanks... 133090
obtained negative antenna gain despite the positive directivity. This is caused by loss in the antenna: lossy dielectric material and conductor losses. On lossy substrates like FR4, the gain of patch antennas is pretty bad, and your simulation shows that if you include the dielectric losses (tand) in the simulation.

Sorry i run CST. In CST you add the FARFIELD option and you see how the antenna radiate the gain directivity etc.... i think it would similar in hfss

hy for all I'm trying to simulate rfid microstrip antenna with complex input impedance witch 25.5 +145*j i used a lumped port for the exitation my problem is that when i use a power of 1w as source i find in result incident power = 5.74 accepted power = 0.17 radiated power is 0.06 the obtained gain is 0.45 and the directivity is 4.82
gain antennas are a poor choice for gps. Their directivity will produce negative gain in other directions. These satellites cover the whole half sphere sky. You need to be able to receive signals from them wherever they are.
hi I am using hfss V11. I was unable to plot S parameter,VSWR? Pls refer to the attached the screen shots. I was unable to choose VSWR and S parameter beside gain and directivity. Please advise. thank you .
hfss calculates directivity, gain, and power radiated, but I was wondering if I can measure them physically (without a simulator). If so, what equipment, technique, etc. is used for that? Please reply ASAP as I have a presentation due soon. Thanks
The radiation pattern (i.e. gain/directivity) calculated by hfss does not change with S11. S11 stands for the impedance matching performance, which is another paramter different from far-field gain/directivity.

the gain is a little larger than directivity in hfss, even for simple dipole. How can this happens? can anyone give me some hints? thanks!
I was building UHF phobe exactly as the handbook says,but when I tried to create far field overlay, I couldn't find 'gain' among category of the Mag Tab. hi my friend. if you have all your simulations done right.then you will have to include far fiedl setup under the radiation icon.then go to results and right click ---> will show you far field click on it and a window will show up.plot your gain and directivity from there take care.
