Since I work more with cavities and at the same time use CST more often so I am afraid that I may not answer it correctly for hfss but I think in case of study for waveguides you need to specify both the entry and exit points to be ports otherwise no matter which solver you will use it will take it to be enclosed with PEC making it cavity again. O

What is the model you are making if you do not know its working frequency as you always design your model for a particular frequency. But if it is cavity then use eigen Mode solver of hfss and resulting modes will give your resonant frequency of your model but even in that case you have to enter a guess in solution setup.
I am simulating a cavity with fundamental mode frequency at 2.998GHz using eigen mode solver of hfss. For wake filed estimation I need to plot dispersion curves for Higher Order Modes (HOM). 90 degree slice with one PEC and one PMC as boundary condition is used to study dipole modes. i am not clear about your question. But you can use hfss calculator and then you can manipulate your calculated fields the way you want.
Hi As far as I know about working of eigen Mode solver in both CST and hfss they just solve the total geometry mathematically on each defined mesh point. So that name eigen value comes from Linear Algebra or some mathematics which you have very rightly pointed. This is the reason that proper mesh definition is very important for convergence (...)
hi i am new in working on hfss. i wanna draw a metallic helix in a vacuum cylinder. should i subtract helix from vacuum cylinder or just put helix in vacuum cylinder? also i wanna work in eigen mode . how can i obtain phase velocity vs frequency in eigenmode? please help me.

Hi eraste, Thanks for your reply, this maybe a silly question but how would i go about finding those modes? I already tried to solve my sphere in hfss eigenmode however the simulation never solved since it ran for over 24 hours. Thanks again.

Hi, I have calculated E field and stored energy in a cavity using hfss eigen mode. So maximum delta (resonant) frequency is used as convergence criteria in this mode. Now there is a question: How E field or stored energy can be used as convergence criteria in eigen mode?
