Hi, I am designing a feeding network for an antenna array. And at the moment I am trying to obtain the impedance of my microstrip line converted from the S-parameters. And from what I know the waveport would get me this. While the lumped port will use user defined Imperdance for scattering matrix calculations. But my (...)
I'm still fairly new to hfss but I did have this problem before. Mine was with a microstrip line and if I remember correctly the wave port did not extend fully and touch both conductors.
Hi every one. Eventhough, I am not new to hfss. But I haven't understand clearly about waveport or Lumport in hfss. What is the nature of wave port/Lumport? When we excite by wave port/Lumport, they (...)
I have tried to simulate a half wave dipole with hfss using PEC. The dipole is 38.75mm long with a small gap (0.4mm) between the two arms to allow a lumped port to be put there. So this should be a half wave at around 1.8GHz. But the imaginary impedance does not even reach 0 (smaller than 0). How can I (...)
Hi all, Based on the generalized S parameters used in hfss, is it correct that, when simulating a microstrip line for example: 1) The characteristic impedance of the line is found by NOT re-normalizing the port and the characteristic impedance of the line is equal to the wave port (...)
Hello friends, I am new in antenna design and I am trying to design a layered MLA for a mobile handset. I prepare my design according to a paper and do some modifications in sizes. I use hfss 13 for simulation and I started to use hfss with this project. I used wave port as excitaions and radiation in a sphere. Here is (...)
I have 5-element λ/2 dipoles spaced 0.1λ apart (they all show in the model...I am not using the Antenna Array Setup wizard). They are all excited with 1W each and the port impedance for each is 73ohms. After simulation, the power accepted is about half less than power incident. When simulating one half-wave dipole alone with 73ohms (...)
Dear all, I am facing the problem of evaluating the INPUT impedance of a slot inserted into a circular waveguide, which, as you know, it is different from Z11. The guide is terminated in one side with a wave port. At the end I have a two-port dev. As I used to do in hfss, I wanted to define (...)
Hi'. I want to draw port of hfss. it has random size. example, port size 3χ3mm. i don't want to draw full port. i hope every body give me some steps draw it thanks
Hello all-- I am looking to match an antenna design to an RFIC. I initially matched the antenna to the lumped port set to 50 ohms. I then changed the lumped port to the RFIC's impedance (63-j199), resimulated, and saw no difference. :???: What am I missing? Thank you, Dave
I have a problem in low frequencies for double ridge WG. the port impedance (characteristic impedance of the line) becomes very large at low frequencies and after that it goes to the Z0 of the transmission line. is it because of wave port feeding just connected to both ends of the
Hello, The power input can be changed in the following menu : hfss/Fields/Edit Source
I would like to assign 1000 ohms to a feed line in hfss? How do I do that? Also, how long and wide should the rectangle be? I am building a quarter wave transformer for a dipole antenna to impedance match it. I am using a lumped port to excite it, but my advisor wants me to build a matching network with a quarter (...)
Hi I want to design chebyshev impeedance matching in hfss Software.i don't know how can i assign load impedance to my I must assigne this impedance to ports?!or another way? thanks
I used hfss to simulate CPW, and I want to know the characteristic impedance.I used the wave port and lumped port , have set the proper size, to excite the CPW. And I got the port z0 50 or 75 ohm, that's not the real impedance. How can I get the real CPW's characteristic (...)
Hi, Could anyone show me how to add an interior wave port? As shown in the attached picture, I want to replace the lump port with a wave port. the impedance line can be the same direction. I want to do that because the real source is a high frequency resonator made by asemiconductor (...)
Lumped ports: Lumped ports are similar to traditional wave ports, but can be located internally and have a complex user-defined impedance. Lumped ports compute S-parameters directly at the port. The complex impedance Zs defined for a lumped (...)
Hi, I need help for setting floquet ports for the simulation of the unit cell of an infinite array in hfss. The unit cell is made up of two orthogonal CPW fed folded slot antennas, each terminated with a lumped port with an opportunely chosen impedance. An opportunely polarised plane (...)
hello! If I have a transmission line with a wave port at either end, and I run a FREQUENCY SWEEP, then will the ports be matched terminators for every frequency in the sweep? In that case, I won't get much information out of S11. Yes, you will see almost 100% transmition and close to 0 reflection for the lossless lines.
This is for the purpose of PCB structure simulation. I saw a few recommendations of wave port size for microstrip line. But I still tried to do port only sim by varying the size of port. i expect to see that impedance change becomes minimal after port size gets large enough. however, the (...)
