Hello all, Please could someone confirm this. In a satellite link design i have specified a bandwidth of 80MHz. My modulation scheme is qpsk. I have then stated that since qpsk is capable of transmitting 2 bits per hz (??), the link can achieve a data rate of 120Mbps. Is this fundamentally correct ? Or am i missing something obvious (...)

Hi I guess, that since there are 4 constellation points in qpsk and these are far apart. A quite large EVM can be tolerated. However with 64QAM the constellation points can be quite close and therefore, there is no room for a large EVM. Regards

Generally if we want to calculate bit rate we use Bitrate=Baudrate*Number of bits per symbol. So for a generate PSK or ASK it'd be Bitrate=Baudrate, for qpsk it'd be Bitrate=2*Baudrate, for 16 QAM it'd be 4*Baudrate. The baud rate is normally set by the requirements of the licensing aurthority as is the modulation - Am/ FM/qpsk/PM ? if you want a serial protocol, you have to specify it your self and then program a processor to generate it. the so called serial protocols have been standardised to allow interchange of data between different manufacturers equipm
